UNBOXING: Colourpop box

img_4563

I told you, this blog isn’t just going to be all about Skin Care! I’ll post about makeup from time to time. (Forgive me for the photo quality, I posted these on my Instagram story and just saved them so they aren’t really in their best quality.)

Anyway, my cousin and I just recently purchased two lip bundles from Colourpop: Out and About and Can You Knot. We purchased two of the same bundle so that we’d have one each. Sadly, we can’t really share (although I do borrow her lip stains whenever we’re together) because we live miles apart. We both loved the bundles that we chose although we were both free to choose a different item, I guess we just had the same taste.

img_4556

I can say that the box was neatly arranged. It was covered with this sheet of foam and when you take off the sheet on top, this is the first thing that welcomes you. When you turn it over, it has a small message for you:

img_4557

I’ve seen different Colourpop unboxing posts, and the message in each box is different.

img_4558

It also comes with this small magazine thingy that promotes other Colourpop items.

img_4559

After the magazine thingy were finally the products itself! I was literally jumping in joy when I was finally able to get my hands on these lipstick bundles. They weren’t covered in bubble wrap or anything which is okay because the whole thing was already covered in foam sheet and the items that we purchased were not likely to spill because they were small.

img_4564

These are the shades from the two bundles. We decided to purchase one with lighter colors, which is the Out and About bundle, and a bundle with darker tones which is the Can You Knot bundle. These are the lip shades in the photo above from Top to Bottom:

Can You Knot Bundle: Ultra Satin Lip: Hutch

Out and About: Ultra Satin Lip: Barracuda (A personal fave of mine)

Out and About: Ultra Matte Lip: Viper

Out and About: Ultra Matte Lip: Times Square (This is the main reason why we actually went and purchased lippies from Colourpop. This pink-beige color is prefect for a nude look!)

Can You Knot: Ultra Matte Lip: Notion

Can You Knot: Ultra Glossy Lip: Sookie

I haven’t tried all of these products yet, I’m still waiting for the perfect occasion to use each and every one of them, especially the darker tones. But I’ve been using Barracuda and Times Square to work from time to time.

Using the darker tones won’t really be a problem for me because I have a fair complexion but I’m not really used to wearing makeup, I just use colorless lipbalm most of the time. But I do hope that having these products in my collection will inspire me to wear makeup more often.

You’ll find out once I get addicted to makeup, because posts like this will appear more often in this blog. But as of the moment, I’m just obsessed with skincare.

XOXO,

Meesh

Althea Korea Skincare Haul

img_6396

Korea is very famous when it comes to skincare.  As I was looking for the perfect products that I wanted to use for my face, I came across this website that ships Korean Skincare Products straight from Korea to the Philippines! And apparently, they were on a sale that time, I get 1000php less if I purchase 3000php worth of products–which means I only got to spend 2000php on all those items in the photo above! It was a really good deal so I didn’t think twice and placed my order. Also, I had been eyeing some of those Korean products for quite some time now and there’s no other way to get my hands on them but through online purchase. Seeing all these products before my eyes really made me happy because I felt like I was finally a part of the skincare community whatsoever.

img_6384

The product arrived 8 days after I placed my order, two days earlier than I expected! According to the website, the product should arrive in 10-15 days. I’m relatively new to online shopping so early delivery really amazes me.

img_6390

The box was really pretty and durable. It can be reused as storage or if you’re planning to wrap someone a gift for their birthday and the gift didn’t come with a box, you can use this. Just hope that they won’t expect for products from Althea!

img_6389

This is how the box looked like when I opened it. The products were all securely wrapped in bubble wrap and it was all arranged neatly to fit the box. It’s nice how pink and green dominated the whole picture because they really complimented each other–which made the package look like candy.

img_6381

Above is a list of the products that I bought. This list was on the pink plastic packaging of the box. I will explain why I bought each and every product starting with the very first one on the list above.

  • Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel – this was actually the very last product that I added in my bag. I needed to reach 3000php so I can avail of their promo and after totaling everything that I put in my bag, I only reached 2,900-ish so I had to add something more. I was thinking of adding a few sheet masks instead, but I realized that those things are readily available in the nearest mall so I decided to check the website’s best sellers instead and add the most interesting and inexpensive item that I can find there, and I found this product.
  • Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask – I have read a lot of reviews about this product and the Super Volcanic one, so I decided to purchase one for myself.
  • Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Foam – I simply wanted to try another product from Innisfree and I found this. I have also heard a lot regarding how volcanic ash from Jeju Island can help prevent acne and acne is one of my major skincare problems.
  • Innisfree Green Barley Gommage Peeling Mask – I have always been interested in exfoliating and I wanted to try a peeling mask because it seemed to be fun to use. So I searched for a peeling mask in their website and came along this one. It’s Innisfree and it’s one of the products that I’m quite familiar with due to the recommendations that I’ve read online so I chose this one.
  • COSRX Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser – This product was one of the reasons why I was looking at online shops because this is so famous among skincare enthusiasts and I am sure that this isn’t locally available in my place. There are a lot of skincare products that I would love to have my hands on but sadly, most of them were out of stock. I am just so relieved that this one isn’t so I immediately put this is my bag without hesitation.

After receiving my first bag from Althea, I was already thinking of getting another set of products from them because of the good service that I received. I cannot wait and experience these Korean skincare products on my face. I am praying that I’ll have no regrets with this set of products because they all look so promising and I have a very high regard on Korean products.

However, this does not mean that I’ll be limiting my skincare products to Korean products instead. I’m still open to use western and local products which is why I’m planning on purchasing from a different website before I purchase an all-Korean set of products from Althea once more… but let’s see about that. The variety of Korean products look so exciting.

If you’re planning on making a purchase on Althea, here’s my referral link which will give you 350php off your first purchase. Enjoy! 🙂

2016 Skincare Routine

Processed with VSCO with 4 preset

Before I start introducing all these products one by one, I will be discussing a brief history of my nightly skincare routine.

When I was younger–up until now, actually. I believed in accepting whatever you have, flaws and all, because I thought that these things makes you who you are. Your uniqueness is the beauty that was given to you so instead of hating yourself for it and trying to change who you are, just accept your flaws and find the beauty in them, your life will be so much easier. Therefore, I didn’t really have a skincare routine. I had a facial wash before but I wasn’t really religious in using it, sometimes I’d forget to wash my face before going to sleep or I would completely skip washing my face with soap because I thought it was unnecessary.

I was 19 when I started focusing on skincare. I still had the same thinking as before, I still loved myself the way I am. The only difference is that I learned that to love myself, I also have to take care of myself. And one way of doing that is by taking care of my skin and keeping my face smooth and healthy. Because honestly, imagine being loved but being taken for granted. Is that fair? No. You have to take care of the things that you love so those things will love you in return. Thus, my skincare routine.

I’ve come a long way since then. I had been using the same products on my face for three years when I finally decided to try and change my routine. So I went to the mall, I went through the skincare products that they had and bought some of it, did a little more research about skincare and searched for the products that my face really needs, and that’s when I started obsessing about these things.

This skincare routine that I’m about to introduce is my very first batch of skincare products in trying to pamper myself. This isn’t perfect for me, I still have some products here that I want to replace–and of course there are some that I would love to keep because I can feel them doing something. However, though this isn’t my holy grail set of products, they’re still good and they still work really well as individual products.

So without further ado, I’ll begin with my cleansers:

img_5094

The Body Shop Seaweed Deep Cleansing Gel Wash – I wasn’t actually planning on buying this but during that time I was looking for a cleanser that I can use in the morning and this product was on sale so I decided to give it a shot. Although my skin isn’t oily AT ALL (like whenever I use those blotting sheets on my face, they would still look good as new.) It doesn’t dry up my face. I rarely apply moisturizer and anything else in the morning which means this product is usually the only thing that I have on my face for the whole day, and so far I have no complaints. It leaves my face smooth and soft–it’s really gentle. The product has a watery consistency that I sometimes fear that it might spill all around my bathroom floor if I don’t shut it tight after using. Also, I have to be careful in squeezing the product out of the tube because I might squeeze more than what I need. What I like the most about this product is that it’s very light on the skin and it doesn’t foam up. It gives my skin a break from all the products that I applied the night before.

Skinfood Tea Tree Moisture Cleansing Foam – I used to use this product in the morning and at night because I really love how it feels against my skin when I’m using it, and it smells really great too. My problem is that, as I have said earlier, I rarely apply anything on my face in the morning and this cleansing foam leaves my face feeling sticky after I’ve washed it with water. In the first few days I thought I wasn’t rinsing my face well which is why I can feel a bit of residue on my face, so I became more conscious on how I rinse my face in the morning and that’s when I realized that I wasn’t the problem, it is the product. Hence, I looked for another cleanser to use in the morning. Aside from that, this product is really good. A pea-sized amount of this product is already good for the whole face. And it doesn’t sting me when I have breakouts which is good.

Toner:img_5095

Etude House Honey Cera Toner – This product is one of my favorites! What I love the most about this toner is the scent. It smells like baby lotion which gives me the feeling that this product is very mild and safe for the skin. It has a milky consistency and it feels very smooth and the skin immediately feels very soft and moisturized once applied. I honestly would love to make this product my toner forever. But sadly, it’s not anymore available in any of the Etude House branches located in my city. I think they eliminated the whole Honey Cera range except for the Eye Serum (which I later bought). I want to consider this product as my holy grail toner and I would definitely recommend this product for all skin types.

Exfoliator:img_5099

Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off – Who does not know this product? When I first started reading online articles regarding skincare, this was one of the few products that was repeatedly mentioned by many different beauty gurus and skincare experts. I usually use this twice a week after the toner because I was afraid that the scrubbing might cause irritation. I have also tried using this before applying toner and it didn’t cause any irritation or redness. The Korean skincare routine suggests that exfoliation should be done after cleansing, but what I do is that I put on toner first, and then this product, let it stay in my face for 15 minutes and I rinse it off. After that, I put a thin layer of toner once more and then proceed with the rest of my routine. It really depends on what works for you. The results after using this product is immediate, my skin feels softer and smoother and it looks lighter. It feels good, in general. This is definitely one of the products that I would love to repurchase.

Clay Mask:img_5098

The Body Shop Skin Clearing Clay Mask – I also got this product on sale (okay, I bought most of my The Body Shop products at around November-December thus sales are EVERYWHERE). I was just really curious and I really wanted to try on clay masks and I’ve read that Tea Tree is good in treating acne and breakouts so I got this product. I usually use this product before and after I travel to somewhere else just so I can get that little bit of protection from breakouts. To be honest, I wasn’t really that impressed with this product although it has this cooling sensation when applied. It was very difficult to wash off and it takes forever to dry. But I would recommend this to people who are acne-prone.

Eye Cream:img_5097

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Eye Concentrate – On my first time trying to use this, I was really confused because I didn’t know that you have to pump it first before using! I thought that there was something wrong with the product because when I tried the sample in their shop, it was perfectly fine and I immediately fell in love with it, but when I had the actual product in my bathroom, I didn’t even know how to use it! Good thing I kept the box, so I read the instructions once more and finally knew how to get this thing working. Also, I don’t know if I’m just unlucky or if this applies to everyone who has this product, but the metal ball does not roll at all–well, it does, when I apply pressure, but I wouldn’t put that much pressure around my eye area because it will probably do more harm than good. I don’t think this little glitch has an impact on the effectiveness of this product, but it surely minimized the luxurious feeling that you’re supposed to have when applying it when the metal ball is rolling.

Sheet Mask:img_5096

Etude House Sheet Masks – The one pictured above isn’t particularly my favorite sheet mask but it’s the only one I had when I was taking photos for this post. I wouldn’t elaborate much about sheet masks here because these things are disposable and  can only be used once per pack, thus you can purchase any kind of sheet mask depending on what you like or what your skin needs as of the moment and then use a different one on your next session. I usually add sheet mask on my skincare routine two to three times a week for 15 to 20 minutes and they have immediate results. My face looks supple and brighter and softer the morning after I used a sheet mask.

Moisturizer:

The Body Shop Vitamin E Aqua Moisture Surge – Now, I don’t know where the individual photo for this product went, but it was on the family picture as posted at the very top (it’s above the tea tree mask.) This moisturizer is also one of my favorites because my skin really feels soft and smooth after using it. Plus, it leaves a matte finish which I really liked and it’s not sticky at all. I’ve read somewhere that this product has comedogenic properties but it seemed like my skin isn’t affected by it, which is really nice for me because I wouldn’t want to give up this product. After applying this, it’s so much easier to put on makeup. I would definitely recommend this especially during the cold months.

Treatment:img_5100

The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil – Well I guess by now it’s pretty much obvious that I’m into Tea Tree products. This Tea Tree Oil is very effective in treating acne because it immediately dies the acne once you apply this in the affected area. I apply this in areas with acne until they’re completely gone–or until the acne dries out. I’ve read somewhere that tea tree oil will burn you if you use too much, but it didn’t burn me yet despite the fact that I use it a lot. I guess that really depends on your skin type.

Sleeping Pack:img_5101

Etude House Play Therapy Sleeping Pack (Firming Up!) – Finally, this is the very last product that I use in my skincare routine. Frankly, I don’t really know if this product is necessary or what because I feel like it does not really do anything, or maybe that’s just because I’m using it wrongly. I apply this after the moisture surge from The Body Shop and I think the reason why I can’t feel this product doing anything to my face is because the moisture surge was too thick. However, before I had the moisture surge, I just use this after my toner and it leaves my face feeling moisturized and firmer the morning after. And it isn’t sticky too, which is nice.

Lip balm:

img_5102

L’Occitane Shea Butter Ultra Rich Lip Balm – Not a lot of skincare routines that I found in the internet has lip balm on their list, but I really do think that this step is very necessary. Even before I started investing in skincare, I was already religiously applying lipbalm on my lips every night. I have tried a lot of different lip balms before, but this one did the trick. I originally found this one in one of those airplane kits that they give out for free and instantly fell in love with it the moment I started using it. My only problem was that I didn’t know where to find a full size version of it because my city only has one L’Occitane store and they only have the stick version of this product. I didn’t purchase it thinking that the reason why this product was effective for me was because it was in a tube. Luckily, when I went to the UK a few months back, I found this in the Duty Free of the Manchester Airport. This was the only one left in the shelf so I immediately bought it. If there were more of this in that shelf, I could have purchased at least two or three more because I really don’t know when I’ll come across this product ever again. This lip balm really did a great job in moisturizing my lips and the best part here for me was that it doesn’t smell like anything nor does it taste like anything. A few days ago I just found out that this product is now available in our local L’Occitane branch, but it comes in a set along with other lip balms. I might purchase it and give the others a try, but honestly they don’t look as promising as this was to me.

So, that concludes my very first Skincare routine. I repeat, this isn’t perfect, nor the best set of products for my face. I’m just posting about this because I wanted to remember the first set of products that I used on my face when I started focusing on skincare. I still have a long way to go, I’ve been busy reading articles, watching videos on youtube and finding more information about skincare so I can improve my routine and have the best products for my face.

I’m very excited to try out other products on my face and I’m more than willing to learn how to take care of it and make it look younger and healthier. There will be more posts and products to be seen in this blog in the future.

Until then,

The First of Many Posts: An Introduction

Well hello there,

Fancy meeting you. I’m glad you’ve stumbled over this humble blog of mine. First things first, my name is Meesh and I have been trying to blog for a couple of years already but none of those blogs really made sense—well, at least that’s what I think. Most of those blogs that I published through the years were mostly composed of rants, random life updates, poorly written travel stories and such. Don’t bother searching for these blogs anymore, it’s either gone (I deleted them) or unrecognizable in the sense that I really didn’t reveal myself as the writer—uninteresting.

Well, I don’t know if this blog that I’m about to start all over again would be anything interesting but I promised myself that I’m going to be a better blogger this time. Gladly, I now have something else to talk about aside from how much I hate or love my life—and that something is… *drumroll please* SKINCARE!!!

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with almost everything that can be applied to the face that isn’t makeup. I keep on watching youtube videos, reading online blogs, and purchasing products that are all for skincare. I’m hopelessly gaga over these things. And while I’m at it, I thought my obsession would be more productive if I blog about them and share my thoughts about the products that I tried and loved in the blogosphere. So here I am, presenting myself in the blogging world once more as a self-proclaimed skincare enthusiast.

But of course, this blog will not just be about skincare. I will be posting about other stuff too. You might be reading posts about makeup, my travels, my life, anything under the sun, etc. It really depends on what floats my boat. So, whatever anyone might see in this blog, I hope they’ll be glad they found it.

That’s all for now. See you in my next post!

XOXO,

Meesh
