Updated AM/PM Skincare Routine for 2018 (A.K.A. first phase of my 2018 skincare goals)

Hey guys!

New Year, new skincare routines! Yay!

I’m now done with my Christmas/new year skincare shopping, and I have already posted my hauls in this site (check them out here, and here.) It is now time for me to reveal my latest morning and evening skincare routines with the products I just purchased.

If you want to know to know my 2018 Skincare Goals, I wrote about it here.

It has been a long time since I posted an updated skincare routine here, and that’s primarily because for the past few months, there was not much of a change in my skincare routine (in fact, some of the items from my last skincare routine can still be found in these new routines!) and I’m afraid that if I post them after just a few product changes, it will be boring and it will look like I just posted the same routine–some products just take forever to empty up!!! However, I will write down some of the other products that I have used prior to this routine and after the last skincare routine that I have uploaded, just to keep things in order.

(related: Update: All-Korean Evening Skincare Routine)

  1. Oil CleanserBanila Co. Super Size Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm. This is actually a repurchase because I used the same oil cleanser before I started using the Jamong Cleansing Balm and the Etude House One Shot Sherbet Cleanser. I actually liked this balm better than the two other balms I have used, thus I decided to go back to this.
  2. Foam CleanseriSkin New York Deep Cleanser. After using the Cosrx Good Morning Low PH cleanser, I used the Banila Co. Clean It Zero Foam Cleanser for about a month before I started using this. There wasn’t anything wrong with the Banila Co. cleanser, it’s just that I had my face cauterized and my skincare clinic suggested that I use this cleanser for maintenance. I didn’t want to risk it thus I decided to buy this cleanser.
  3. TonerBenton Snail Bee High Content Skin. Yes. I still have this product with me. No complaints! Even though I’m not really sure what it does to my skin…
  4. EssenceCosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. Prior to this I had Nature Republic’s Honey Real Nature Essence, Etude House’s Honey Cera Essence, and as well as their Wonder Pore Tightening Essence. I’m not yet done with these essences from Etude House, but I decided to have a break from the both of them and use this Snail essence from Cosrx twice daily because it has been so wonderful to my skin and I feel like it will be more effective if I apply it daily. However, I’m still planning on using the essences from Etude House soon. Actually, I only use the pore tightening essence on the nose area which is why these two always come together. I might use both of them in the morning and then this essence from Cosrx in the evening after a few weeks.
  5. SerumIt’s Skin Power 10 Formula VC Effector. I only had Dear Klairs’ Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop between this and the serum that I had in the last skincare routine that I posted.
  6. Eye CreamInnisfree Orchid Eye Cream. I was supposed to use this for the evening to replace my Skinfood Salmon Brightening Eye Cream, but when I did, I noticed that my eyes weren’t getting any brighter. So I continued using my Skinfood eye cream in the evening and started using this orchid eye cream in the morning. Also, let me just say that this is totally perfect for morning use because it’s so easy to apply and it blends well with makeup.
  7. Oil – Organic Alley Rosehip Oil. Ooooooh! This is a new section. I am now introducing beauty oils to my skincare routine–as part of my skincare goals. So far, so good.
  8. Moisturizer – The Face Shop 99% Aloe Vera Gel. Before this, I was using the Nature Republic 92% Aloe Vera Gel but I ran out of it and I wasn’t able to order it online. This was the closest dupe that was locally available so I bought this instead. Needless to say, I still prefer the one from Nature Republic.
  9. Sun cream – Biore UV Perfect Face Milk SPF 50+ PA++++. I use a lot of sun creams. My choice depends on the event or the situation of the day. Whenever I’m at home, I usually just use the Belo SunExpert Face Cover SPF40 PA+++. But whenever I go out, I use this one from Biore.

This is not yet the perfect morning skincare routine for me. I have a love-hate relationship with the Organic Alley Rosehip Oil because it makes my face look really oily and it seems like it never absorbs into the skin, it just sits there the whole day. But ever since I added this oil in my routine, my skin has become more soft and flawless than ever!!!!!!! And I can really feel it after I wash my face and I haven’t applied anything to it yet, it feels great and it looks great and I’m totally in love with it (which makes me not want to do my skincare routine anymore because it’s freaking flawless!!! But I can’t not do my routine, of course. It’s the reason why it’s THAT flawless.)

I first applied it after my Aloe Vera Gel because I feel like it’s heavier than the gel, but then it started pilling. However, it does not leave an oily residue on my face. And then I tried applying it before the gel, and it feels like there’s no point of applying the gel anymore because the oil is too heavy, it seemed like I’m layering too much. But this time, there’s no pilling.

I’m not sure if it is my skin, or if it is my skincare line-up, or if it is the way I applied the rosehip oil and the aloe vera gel, but I really want to have rosehip oil in my routine. I had no problem with any oily residue or product pilling before I added the rosehip oil, so the center of this issue is my oil and how do I correctly apply it? There are a lot of other people out there who uses rosehip oil on their face on a daily basis that didn’t have any problem with it… but here I am. I’m thinking that it might be because the rosehip oil that I’m currently using isn’t cold pressed. But whatever the problem may be, I will find a way to solve it and I will have rosehip oil on my face. I will get both things I want. Lol.

  1. Oil Cleanser – Banila Co.’s Clean It Zero
  2. Foam Cleanser – iSkin New York Deep Cleanser
  3. Toner – Etude House Berry AHA! Bright Peel Boosting Serum. I know that the label says serum, but the product instructions say that I should use it like a toner, and so I did. (see full review here)
  4. Essence – Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
  5. Serum – It’s Skin Power 10 Formula VE Effector. I really didn’t have a serum on my night routine because I already had the Boosting Serum from Etude House. But when I bought this, I realized that Vitamin E is very much safe to use with AHA. Since then, I reintroduced serums in my night routine. (I’m already thinking of the next serum to buy as I type.)
  6. Eye Cream – Skinfood Salmon Brightening Eye Cream. I’ve had this one since forever, and I don’t think I need another Eye Cream in the next few months. However, if you guys have suggestions, feel free to comment below. I honestly don’t know how to pick an eye cream.
  7. Emulsion – Nature Republic Argan 20 Steam Emulsion. This is my second emulsion, ever. The Etude House Moistfull Collagen Emulsion lasted me one complete year, and I am hoping that this will also last a year, if not longer.
  8. Night Cream – Nella Honey 1 Snail Ultra Moisture Cream Premium. I also used my Nature Republic Aloe Vera gel in the evening, and when I ran out of it, I started using The Face SHop 99% Aloe Vera Gel. However, I wanted to change my night cream so I briefly went back to my very first sleeping mask, which is the Etude House Play Therapy Sleeping Mask. (see routine here) That mask had been with me since forever, and I thought that I don’t really need a firming mask that much, so I went and bought this cream from Althea. (see haul here)
  9. Lip Mask – Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. This lip mask has been with me since forever, and it smells so good, I am in love with it. I think I started using this around April last year, and I’m still barely halfway through the whole bottle. Totally worth the price, if you ask me.

This first phase of fulfilling my Skincare Goals for 2018 is more focused on adding Snail products in my routine, hence the Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence and the Nella Honey 1 Snail Ultra Moisture Cream Premium. I never really had the chance to incorporate Snail Mucin in my 2017 Skincare Routines except for the Benton Snail Bee High Content Skin and the occasional Snail sheet mask because all of the snail products that I wanted to have were always out of stock in Althea and BeautyMNL. Back then, having snail mucin in my routine was not really much of a goal, it’s more like something that I was willing to try (but I never got the chance lol). This year, since the occasional Snail sheet mask from Etude House has proven that Snail does indeed do wonders on my skin, I have decided that it should have more participation in my skincare routine. I actually feel like I have been missing a huge part of my Korean beauty obsession because I don’t have any snail mucin product.

Also, I currently have two It’s Skin Power 10 Formula Effectors in my skincare routines. I wanted to try the whole line on my skin because it looks so fun and colorful. However, trying the whole line isn’t really high on my priority list right now because I have an ideal skincare routine in my mind which involves more Cosrx, Klairs, and The Ordinary products. But if ever I need a certain serum and my first choice of serum is not in stock, I might go for another It’s Skin Power 10 Formula Effector instead.

For the second phase, I want to add more actives in my skincare routine. But I have to do it really slowly because I don’t want to traumatize my skin by having too many active products. I might start with what I’m familiar with first, which is a stronger Vitamin C serum, AHAs and BHAs. But to be honest, the second phase depends on what items are available in the market. Because I’m also looking at beauty oils, but I need to do more research about it seeing that my current rosehip oil is not that much of a delight to use (maybe it’s because of the products I used during the routine, because it absorbs perfectly when I massage it on my arm), but I have noticed some positive changes that can be attributed to that beauty oil.

And honestly, this AM/PM skincare routine isn’t the perfect skincare routine for me. But I really like what it’s doing to my skin.

Before I end this post, I would just like to remind everyone that I have a normal-dry skin type. My nose area is acne prone.

If any of you guys use beauty oils, please tell me how you incorporate it in your routines. Also, does it make your face look really shiny? Or does it absorb well? Comment down below!

PRODUCT REVIEW: Etude House Berry AHA Bright Peel Boosting Serum

And now we’re down to the first review of the year!

I have had this Berry AHA Bright Peel Boosting Serum from Etude House with me for more than 8 months already. I bought this after I ran out of my Cosrx Natural Skin Returning A-Sol, and I have used this as my main chemical exfoliant ever since.

(I just noticed that I would immediately run out of product during my first few months with skincare. A bottle would usually last me for about three months, and then I would need to find a replacement immediately. This may be due to the fact that I was still trying to repair my skin which led me to use more product than most skincare users would on an average–and since I was new, there were a lot of work to do. But after the first initial months, my skin tamed down and I didn’t need to use a lot of product anymore. I was then more focused on maintenance than repair.)

So, this boosting serum from Etude House contains AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) which is a chemical exfoliator that works to remove the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. Thus, this helps in making the skin look younger and brighter. It also does a great deal in clearing up clogged pores which can reduce the appearance of whiteheads and acne.

I first started using this product every other night right after I cleanse as a toner. They might call it a serum, but chemical exfoliants are best used right after cleansing or toning. The box suggests that I use a cotton pad to apply this, but I simply use my hands to do so because I find the formulation of this product a bit thick to be used with a cotton pad with–I feel like more of the serum goes to the pad and not on my face. Despite not going with the instructions, I didn’t have any problem with this product.

After a few months, I started using this every night. I know that it is not advisable to use acids every day but I haven’t had complications with it for the past 6 months (I think?). It really depends on how your skin reacts to acids. If you have sensitive skin, you might want to do a patch test first to see if your skin has negative reactions whatsoever. By the way, I used to travel a lot and I don’t really bring this with me when I’m travelling, so my skin gets to have a break from this chemical exfoliant for a few days every now and then.

Aside from that, I don’t use this whenever I use my Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off because over exfoliating may lead to irritation. I use my sugar mask 2-3 times a week (or whenever I feel like it, but I make sure that there’s at least two days in between when I want to use my sugar mask.) Also, I don’t use this in the same routine with my Vitamin C serum because it might also lead to over exfoliation and irritation.

This is a lightweight serum that has consistency lighter than gel but definitely a whole lot thicker than water. It smoothly spreads on the face and it absorbs quickly, leaving a matte finish. I usually wait for a few minutes before I apply my next layer of skincare just to make sure than my skin has completely absorb the serum, and for it to have enough time to work its wonders on the skin.

It leaves my face feeling a lot cleaner and fresher every time I use this product. There are times that I travel for more than five days and when that happens, I actually start to miss this product because it just gives me that refreshing feeling that somehow reassures me that my pores are clean therefore I will not have pimples.

That’s it. Ever since I started using this serum, I noticed that I rarely get acne. I don’t get acne on the usual acne spots in my face and when I do get acne, it’s only during PMS. (I don’t really know what I can do about that, but at least I don’t get pimples as much as I do anymore!) Also, my face feels a lot more smoother. No more rough areas anymore except my nose area–which I must admit is requires more work and care than the rest of my face. I also feel like my face is a lot more firmer and healthier, thanks to this product.

I haven’t experienced any irritation and I don’t remember feeling any discomfort with this product.

By the way, I don’t know if it’s just me but this product doesn’t result to visible peeling. Which means I did not go through the process of having to remove a layer of dead skin off my face manually to reveal the newer skin beneath. This serum is very gentle and very safe as long as it is not overused (because it’s acid.)

I liked this AHA serum from Etude House but I don’t think it is something I will repurchase. However, I still recommend this for everyone especially for those who has dry to normal skin types and for those who are acne prone.

I hope you enjoyed this review and this has helped you in any way.

Until next time,

Best of My 2017 Skincare (Blogversary Post!)

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!! I know it’s already the 17th on January and I should have posted my best of 2017 around December last year, buuuuut— today is my blog’s 1st year anniversary, which is more or less the anniversary of my skincare obsession, so I think it will be more fitting if I post this today. Therefore, this blog post serves two purposes. One, is to cap up my whole year of skincare and two, to celebrate the birth of this baby. Happy Birthday, Mimarosa!!!! (I hope that I can update you more often this year, and I hope you get more followers, and viewers, and readers. Lol)

Anyway, so to celebrate… I will be posting the best skincare products that I have tried for the past year. I will only be mentioning one product per skincare step so this post won’t be too lengthy. Please bear in mind that even though these are the best skincare products for me, that does not mean that using them all together at once is the perfect skincare routine. All the products that I will be mentioning here were used in different times along with different products, and some of them cannot be used in one skincare routine.

Sooo… let’s start!

FIRST CLEANSER – Banila Co.’s Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm

13258894_BI think this is the cleansing balm that I have used for the most part of the year. Mainly because after using my first regular tub, I bought a different cleansing balm and when I ran out of it, I decided to repurchase this one in the supersize tub. I love it’s fruity-flowery scent and I love how easily it melts on my skin. I actually broke a pledge I made with myself when I repurchased this because I wanted to try different products before settling to, yknow, one product. But I liked Clean It Zero so much that I can’t imagine myself using another cleansing balm aside from this. Thus, this year, I need to remind myself not to repurchase this later and try another balm.

SECOND CLEANSER – Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser

I have used a couple of second cleansers for the year, and to be honest, I’m not really particular with my cleansers which is why I never posted any review about them. However, if I were to choose the best one, it would be this. I like how lightweight this product is and how easy I can massage it on my face. It’s very gentle and mild, but I can say that it does its job in cleaning. Also, one bottle lasted me 10 months. That’s a good bargain, if you ask me.

EXFOLIATOR – Skinfood Black Sugar Wash Off Mask

Skin Food Black Sugar Mask Wash Off Pic 2-900x900

There are a lot of different types of exfoliators, yknow, chemical and physical exfoliators. AHA and BHA, etc. and these exfoliators are completely different from one another. However, I have decided to give the Best Exfoliator of 2017 slot to Skinfood’s Black Sugar Mask Wash Off. Basically because this was my very first physical exfoliant and I immediately loved it. Of course it came to my mind that I should also try another exfoliator, but I didn’t see the need to do so because I still had this. Although I also have another exfoliator from Innisfree, I didn’t like it as much as I liked this.

I didn’t want to categorize this along with my chemical exfoliants because I think they’re two completely different things. And I think of chemical exfoliants as toners and not as exfoliators. Also, I really like this exfoliator because it’s very relaxing compared to the other exfoliants I had for the whole year. (read full review here)

CLAY MASK – The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask

This clay mask is my second most used clay mask for the year, next to Innisfree’s Jeju Pore Clay Mask. However, even though this isn’t the most used, I consider it my best clay mask for 2017 because of its texture. It’s rich and creamy and it doesn’t feel hard on the face when it dries. Also, it has a minty feel that makes me feel refreshed whenever I use this mask. (read full review here)

TONER – Etude House Honey Cera Toner

This toner is actually the reason why I am so obsessed with the Etude House Honey Cera line. I also bought the eye cream, lip balm, and essence–not all at once, though (I bought and used them in different periods.) I am just so in love with its light milky texture that easily absorbs into the skin. This also smells really good–I can’t begin to explain how it smells because it’s been a year since I last used ths but it kind of reminds me of those milk bath soaps that babies use. Also, my skin feels really soft and supple every time I use this toner.

ESSENCE – Nature Republic Honey Real Nature Essence

I was actually so impressed at how wonderful this product is. Mainly because I bought it out on a whim. I haven’t heard of it before, but I trust the brand and I trust what honey can do to my skin so I gave it a shot. Apparently, that random purchase was one of my best purchases for the year. I immediately noticed its effect on the first time I used it. My skin was immediately brighter and moisturized. My only problem is that I ran out of this essence after two months. This is definitely a holy grail essence for me. (real full review here)

SERUM – Dear Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop

This serum is soooo soooo sooo amazing I think it was the one which made the biggest impact on my skin. My acne scars disappeared and my face became brighter… and I actually felt like my skin looked younger because it sort of retexturized my skin and removed all the dullness and fine lines. This is one of the best products ever. Hands down. I don’t even know how to describe it faithfully enough to make you guys realize its wonders. I guess you’ll have to get a bottle yourself and experience the wonders of this product. (read full review here)

EYE CREAM – Skinfood Salmon Brightening Eye Cream

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about this eye cream because I am pretty much sure that this isn’t the best eye cream out there. It’s just that this one was the one I decided to purchase and it lasted me the whole year. It has a tendency to sting my eye from time to time because it’s really light and I can’t seem to measure the enough amount I should use because I always end up getting too much and it takes forever to massage it on my lower eye. However, I still appreciate this product and I consider this product the best of my 2017 because it really does its job in brightening my eyes. I mean, I get a lot of restless nights due to work but people never see any trace of stress on my face because I don’t have dark under eyes. And I have to say, not having dark under eyes when you only get to sleep three hours a night is a miracle.

SHEET MASK – Etude House Manuka Honey Mask

If you guys have been following my blog, you’ll notice that I haven’t posted any sheet mask review nor was I ever specific when I talk about sheet masks–I just refer to them as sheet masks in general. That’s because I’m still looking for the best sheet mask for my skin and I wanted to to a “10 Best Sheet Masks” post because posting about just one sheet mask does not feel enough for me. However, since I have to tell you guys the best of my 2017 in this post. I think Etude House’s Manuka Honey Mask has been the most effective sheet mask that I have used so far. I was immediately amazed by this sheet mask on the very first time I tried it because my face became really soft–like, baby soft the morning after I used this mask. Since then this has been my go-to sheet mask.

EMULSION – Etude House Moistfull Collagen Emulsion

To be honest, I really didn’t like this product during the first few weeks when I was using this. It was too sticky for me and I was new to skincare thus stickiness was a big issue to me then. However, as months went by, I came to accept the feeling that skincare gives me, and actually, I realized that this emulsion isn’t that bad! If anything, it helps in keeping my skin moisturized and prevents it from flaking, especially in the nose area. I think this product has a huge participation in making my face look dewy and healthy. To be honest, this was the only emulsion I was ever able to try for 2017 thus it does not really have any competition for being the best emulsion. However, that does not mean that it won because I had no other choice. I mean, if I didn’t like this product, I could have easily bought another emulsion. But I didn’t, I stuck with this product until its very last drop, which means it’s good enough for me.

MOISTURIZER – Nature Republic 92% Aloe Vera Gel

Much like the Etude House Moistfull Collagen Emulsion, I really didn’t like this product at first because I had a huge breakout after using this for the first time, and then I used too much product on my face which made it sticky so I stopped using it for a while. After some research and stuff, I decided to use this product again and I was finally able to realize how useful and effective it is. It’s actually very lightweight and it easily absorbs into the skin as long as you don’t apply a lot of product. A coin-sized amount of this is already too much, since a little amount is enough to cover the whole face. (See full review here)

SUN CREAM – Innisfree Daily UV Protection Cream No Sebum

I have used a lot of sun creams over the whole year, but I keep coming back to this one. Mainly because it’s very easy to apply, plus it has a matte finish which makes it convenient for me to use especially when I’m in a hurry in the morning. When I started using skincare, applying products in the morning didn’t really sound appealing to me because I don’t want to deal with the shiny residue that the products might leave when I apply them–which means I will have to take time and effort to apply loose powder to make it less shiny. But this one solves that problem. It’s only 35SPF but I’m barely exposed to the sun, thus this cream from Innisfree does the job perfectly for me.

To be honest, I try to avoid buying products unless I’m running out of the current product I’m using because I know that stashing will only result to throwing away unused and expired products. And I don’t want to spend my money on something that I’ll just abandon halfway through and remember only when it’s already two years old and expired. Which is why I didn’t have a lot of other options in some of the products stated above. This 2018, I still don’t know how my skincare shopping and selection will be like, but I’m now more focused on addressing my skincare problems, and not just trying on some products that looked interesting whatsoever. Last year, I got so excited with this hype that I just kept on buying and buying what I can find until I realized that I had too much already–which explains the lack of hauls in the later part of the year.

This year, I’m planning to be more careful and specific with my products. Right now, I’m doing research on my current skincare concerns which are the blackheads, scars, and pores on my nose. I hope that I can get the flawless nose that I have always dreamed of by the end of the year. And I hope you guys will be with me for that journey.

I am so excited to start another year with this blog. So for everyone who’s been following and reading this blog, thank you so much! I mean, I didn’t think that anyone would even give a damn about this blog but I receive notifications almost every day that someone has followed, liked, and commented on my posts. You guys don’t know how happy that makes me feel. I’m also happy that some of us are getting familiar with each other, I honestly don’t know where I can find an online community like a forum that solely talks about skincare–particularly Korean skincare. But I have you guys!!! And I think you guys are enough ❤

Once again. I thank everyone for staying with me this whole year. For those who has commented and left suggestions and stuff, I really appreciate everything. I still consider myself a baby when it comes to skincare and blogging, and you guys made it so easy for me to take my baby steps.

Sooo… here’s to another year of Mimarosa! And for more years to come! Also, for beautiful and flawless youthful skin!

My Skincare Wishlist 2017

Hey guys! So a few weeks ago I posted about my My Christmas Wishlist 2017, which is mainly about everything that I wanted for this Christmas. The list only included two skincare items which are the Tony Moly Ferment Snail Skincare Set and the Innisfree Orchid Eye Cream. Of course, even though I’m all about skincare, a girl has other needs too.

However, that does not mean that they’re the only two products on my skincare wishlist–I’m obsessed with skincare, of course there’ll be more than two items in the list. I only put the two main items in my skincare wishlist because I’m afraid that if I put everything that I want, I won’t be able to get anything except skincare. (yes, I do have a life outside skincare) sooo… uhm, yeah. Here’s the list of Skincare items that I would love to have soon. I might purchase them, or bribe someone to give them to me as a gift–or just like any other millennial, ask(beg) my parents to buy them for me.

  1. Neogen Real Fresh Cleansing Stick (Green Tea)

I have seen this cleansing stick a number of times around different skincare articles and videos, and I really need a good cleansing stick since I already ran out of my previous one. This one seems to be a good product so I thought I’d give it a try. If this was easy to find in the Philippines, I would have bought it a long time ago already. But it’s not in my trusted websites and I’m not sure where else to go to soo… I’ll just have this in my wihslist in case someone I know goes out of the country and finds this (but if you guys know a good website, please let me know.)

2. Etude House Honey Cera Emulsion

Have I mentioned how in love I am with this certain line from Etude House? Nope? Please remind me to blog about it. Lol. Anyway, I have tried the toner, lip balm, and eye cream from the Etude House Honey Cera Skincare lineup and I am totally loving every single one of it. Sadly, I don’t know if Etude House has faced out the Honey Cera line or the local flagship stores just don’t want to sell them or whatsoever, but they have been off the shelves for months. However, they’re still available in the Etude House Global website, thus there might still be a hope for me to get my hands on the other Honey Cera products. If you’re asking why I chose the emulsion among all others, it’s because I really don’t know any other emulsion and knowing that the Honey Cera line is good for me, I think I will love this product.

But guys, if you can recommend a good emulsion, please comment down below. It would be a great help, thanks!

3. Dear Klairs Supple Preparation Toner

I have read that this toner is great on hydration and my skin is always in dire need of good hydration. Also, I have already tried and tested the Dear Klairs brand and it has done wonders to my skin.

4. Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Snail Mucin Essence

ELLE yeah Winter Skin Saviours Skincare Review Dry Sensitive Dehydrated K-Beauty Korean Essence COSRX Snail Mucin Power Essence

The only snail anything that I have in my Skincare routine is the Benton Snail Bee Skin and the occasional snail mask from Etude House. Knowing that Snail Mucin does wonders to my skin, I’d like to incorporate more of it in my routine. Since the Essence is the heart of Korean Skincare, I think having a snail essence will give me positive results. Yknow, I’m really picky when it comes to my serum and essence because I think these two products has the most effect on the skin, and I’m really specific with the ingredients of them… which is why I am extra meticulous when it comes to finding the next essence or serum I’ll be using.

5. Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum

Just like most of the products in this wishlist, I have watched reviews about this product and from what I have gathered, this is the perfect Vitamin C serum not only because the product is holy grail itself, but the packaging is totally perfect for Vitamin C. I honestly think that getting my hands on this product is literally grace from the heavens because it’s quite expensive–I don’t know if anyone is willing to spend all that money in one product when you can get like, at least 5 products with the money. Also, I don’t know where to get this product locally. But I am hoping that someday, I’ll be able to use this product and experience its wonders first hand.

There you go! I’m cutting this list to five, because if I put everything that I want in this list, this blog post will never see its end.

Honestly, I don’t know how this post can help anyone whatsoever, but I still want to put this here for the sake of sharing. I do hope you find this post entertaining. And if you have a skincare wishlist, please comment down below or send me a link if you blogged about it.

Until then,

PRODUCT EXPERIENCE: Miniso Compressed Facial Masks

Hello everyone! Miniso–a Japanese fast fashion designer brand just recently opened in SM City Davao last August. This got me really excited because as much as I love Korean Skincare, I am a big fan of Japanese products. I remember back when I was still a student in college, I would purposely go to Manila before going to Dumaguete just so I can buy notebooks and pens from Muji, and clothes from Uniqlo. I don’t know how the Japanese does it, but their products are really good–and I didn’t even notice that I preferred Japanese products until much later. To be honest, I didn’t have any idea what Miniso was when I found out that they opened here in Davao, but I still got excited because it’s Japanese.

It was so funny because during my first visit in Miniso, I was with my mom and there were sooooooooo many people inside the store that we decided not to buy anything yet because the line’s too long and everything was chaotic. All we did was look around and yknow, did some window shopping on the products we think we might purchase. And one of the items that caught our eyes was this:IMG_4182 (1)

Compressed Facial Mask Sheets! It really looks interesting because it’s different, and it looks like small candies. When I saw this, I immediately told my mom that I will get one of these soon when we go back to do some shopping. Sure enough, in our second visit, my mom got the white ones while I got the black.

I was really excited to try this and see how it works because if ever this facial mask was good, I can skip hoarding tons of sheet masks and just pop one or two of these in my bag whenever I travel and bring my preferred serum or essence with me (the thing that I would soak this with.

So anyway, here’s how an individual compressed sheet mask looks like:

According to the packaging, the sheet mask must be soaked in ‘essence toner’ for it to decompress. I honestly have no idea what an ‘essence toner’ was, but yknow some Asian products, they have completely different terms for different products, and you have to be savvy enough to know what they actually meant. Well, since most sheet masks are soaked in Essence, I chose The Body Shop’s Drops of Light Pure Translucency Essence Lotion.

IMG_4269 (1)

I actually got this Essence Lotion as a present last Christmas, and I used this in my very first skincare routine, but I wasn’t able to finish all of it because I wanted to try more Korean products. Thus, I just put this is my shelf in case I feel like using it again.

(related: 2016 Skincare Routine)

So to test the facial mask, I got an old container and put the compressed sheet mask in the middle.IMG_4190 (1)

And I put two to three drops/squirts of the essence lotion on the product. I did this while I was putting clay mask on my face, thinking that after washing the clay mask off and applying my other products, the compressed mask will be soaked enough to open up and I can use it before I apply my emulsion and moisturizer.

IMG_4192 (2)

So, after 20 minutes of letting my clay mask dry, washing it off, applying my essence, serum and eye mask, the compressed mask didn’t look like it would decompress anytime soon, so I decided to transfer it on a smaller container where it can be filled with more essence. I added two more drops/squirts (I honestly press the bottle for the product to come out so I guess I can call it ‘squirts’ lol) for good measure.

IMG_4263 (1)

After a few more minutes, I got tired of waiting and decided to press the compressed mask to force the essence in so it can finally decompress.

So yeah, after almost an hour of frustration, it finally decompressed and it looked like this:

I have to be honest, it was a disappointment because I applied more product that I usually would apply on my face on this and yet this doesn’t even feel wet enough to be a sheet mask. Yknow, sheet masks are usually soaking wet and oftentimes there will still be product dripping out of the mask once you remove it from the packaging, while this one looked really dry. I didn’t bother using it on my face anymore because I didn’t want to add anything to my disappointment anymore.

Anyway, my brother got another compressed mask and put water on it, and after a matter of seconds, it decompressed. So maybe I thought it was my fault because the essence was too thick and the mask couldn’t absorb it completely. Thus, after a few days, I did a second experiment with my Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner.

IMG_4298 (2)

After all, the mask’s packaging said ‘essence toner’ and maybe they really meant ‘toner’, or maybe there might really be an ‘essence toner’ in Japan, I don’t really know. If you guys know anything, please comment down below.

This is how to looked like before I added toner on it (by the way, a freshner is a toner too.):IMG_4314 (4)

After three squirts of the freshner, it immediately turned into this:IMG_4316

It decompressed fast and it’s ready to use. IMG_4318

But then again, I didn’t use this on my face because the Wonder Pore Freshner is alcohol-based and I didn’t want my face to be soaked in anything alcohol-based for too long. I do use this freshner from time to time, but I don’t think it is advisable to use it as a sheet mask.

Final verdict: I guess you guys can say that I don’t like putting this sheet mask on my face based on the fact that I didn’t in the two experiments. To be honest, I don’t think I will be using these compressed sheet masks anytime soon, or whenever I travel, because first, I need to find an appropriate product to soak this with, and second, I would actually need to put more than what I usually apply on my face on this product for it to work. Lastly, in my own opinion, I think it will be more space savvy to use the readily soaked sheet masks than using these whenever I travel because I still need to bring another bottle of product to use this. While in regular sheet masks, I can just put them anywhere in my own convenience. However, I would recommend these compressed masks for people who likes experimenting, and for those who has watery products and would want to reinforce it’s effects on the face with a sheet mask.

Before I end this blog post, I would just like to clarify that the goal of this post is to share my thoughts and opinions on a certain product and I, in any way, has no intention to degrade or dignify Miniso in any form. I’m just stating my honest observations, hoping that I can help the people out there who are interested in this product.

Since Miniso has a lot of products in their store, expect that I will be posting other reviews from the items in their store soon. I hope you’ll be around to read that once more,

Until next time,

Update: All-Korean Evening Skincare Routine

Hey guys! It’s been quite some time since my last post and I’m really sorry for that. I’ve been traveling here and there, and I didn’t have enough time to write a post. Anyway, here I am right now with my updated Evening Skincare Routine!

Before anything else, I would like to emphasize that all the products in this routine came from Korean brands and this is the very first lineup in my history of skincare where every single product is Korean. I consider this as a big step for me and an achievement. I’m not saying that none-Korean products aren’t good, but my skincare routine is patterned after the Korean routine and it’s not easy to let go of my non-Korean skincare favorites. But I wanted to experience this All-Korean routine at least once in my life so… here we go.

(Related: 2016 Skincare Routine)

(Related: My 11-step Evening Skincare Routine (Part 1)My 11-Step Skincare Routine (Part 2))

  1. Oil Cleanser – Hopegirl Jamong Cleansing Balm
  2. Foam Cleanser – Skinfood Tea Tree Moisture Cleansing Foam
  3. Exfoliator – Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off
  4. Toner – Benton Snail Bee High Content Skin
  5. Essence – Etude House Moistfull Collagen Essence
  6. Serum – Innisfree Tangerine Vita C Serum
  7. Sheet Mask – To be honest, I don’t use any particular sheet mask. I just buy what looks interesting and add it to my stash…
  8. Eye Cream – Skinfood Salmon Brightening Eye Cream
  9. Moisturizer – Nature Republic 92% Aloe Vera
  10. Night Cream – Caolion Pore Tightening Memory Sleeping Mask
  11. Lip Cream – Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask [Berry]

11 products all in all! Lip creams aren’t usually mentioned or included in the famous 10-step Korean Skincare Routine, but I find using a lip product at night a necessity. I do use clay masks and other treatment products whenever needed, but these 11 products are the core of my routine thus these are the only items that I included here.

Unlike my other blog posts about Skincare routines, I didn’t write a short review on any of the products mentioned above because I’m planning on writing individual reviews on each and every one of them in my succeeding posts. So, if you want to know more about any item in this routine, just wait for my post in the coming days or weeks!

That’s all for now and I hope you liked this update.

Etude House Berry Delicious Cream Blusher Review

And it’s makeup time! As you guys know, this blog is mainly dedicated to skincare but that does not definitely mean that everything here will be about skincare, skincare, and skincare. I will be talking about other stuff from time to time. After all, this blog is supposedly a personal blog–it’s just that I’m currently obsessed with skincare hence the plethora of skincare reviews and hauls.

(RELATED: UNBOXING: Colourpop box)

In this post I will be talking about my current favorite blusher, which is the Etude House Berry Delicious Cream Blusher in the shade Grapefruit Strawberry. It got this at a nearby Etude House store because I needed to put some makeup on for an event and I wanted a soft peachy shade of blush on my cheeks.IMG_9440

Here’s a photo of my bare hand for comparison. The blusher is really light thus I need to show you guys how it looks like without makeup.

And this is my hand with the blusher applied. As I have said, it’s very light and it’s very unnoticeable. If you’re going for a dramatic heavy look, this blusher is not for you.

Koreans are well known for their very minimalist approach to cosmetics, they even coined the “no makeup makeup look” in which they use makeup to conceal impurities and enhance features of the face, but it’s so light that no one will notice that it’s makeup. It looks very natural and it will of course leave those who are not aware of this trend in awe because of the perfect skin complexion that seems to be inborn, but was in fact enhanced with makeup.

I myself isn’t a big fan of makeup, and I just barely started using lose powder on a daily basis. And nowadays I’ve been adding this blusher to my routine from time to time–just to give my boring face some color and life. What I like about using this is that it makes me look like I have a natural blush—that’s I’m just blooming, that’s all. I honestly thought that people in my office noticed that I put on some blush the day I started using this and they just didn’t comment about it. But after two weeks of wearing this blusher on a daily basis, one of my officemates remarked, “Wow, you’re wearing blush on today.” and I was completely blown away. I became a little worried because I might have applied too much blush for her to notice it, but she said that it looked nice so I just let it be.

After that, there would be a pattern—there were days when they notice that I have used a blusher and there were days when they don’t. I guess it really depends on how much makeup I put on my face. I would prefer them not noticing the extra color on my cheeks, but I guess it can’t be helped. And, after all, I get compliments instead of judgement whenever I put more than needed. It’s a win-win situation.

That’s all for now!

What’s In My Bag: My Go-To Beauty Essentials

Hello everyone! I feel like it’s been a while since my last post. I usually update 2-3 times a week, but I wasn’t able to schedule new posts recently because I just spent a few days in Palawan last week without a laptop with me, thus I wasn’t able to write new content. Also, I’m trying to get my life back together by going to the gym more often (I only go once to twice a month before! Lol) and by enrolling in a foreign language class. All of these made me quite busy. But don’t you guys worry! I won’t give up on this blog just like how I gave up on the million other blogs that I had before this. I have a list of content that I’m planning to write during my free time. And I do have a lot of things to say and share in this blog. Stay tuned for that!

Anyway, let’s talk about my go-to beauty essentials. These are products which can be found in different pockets of my bag. I do have a specific pouch dedicated to my beauty essentials that I bring with me all the time, but there are just some items that I use more often thus I place them in pockets that are much more easier to access. The products in this post are all the beauty items that you can find in the bag that I carry every day.

Maybelline White SuperFresh Powder Foundation – To be honest, I only carry this around for the mirror. I used to apply this on my face on a daily basis, but I noticed that it gets cakey over time, especially on the area where the rim of my sun glasses sit, so I stopped using this daily. I still reserve this product for days when I need full makeup.

The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Protect Lotion (see full review here) – I find this product very useful especially on days when I do not have enough time to do a full morning skincare routine. I just massage this lotion on my face after washing and apply powder and I’m done! I do notice that even though I wasn’t able to follow both my morning and evening routines, as long as I use this sun lotion, my face looks brighter and clearer. Since using this on top of other skincare products makes my face tacky, I utilize the wonders of this cream by using it whenever I’m at home–or as I have said, whenever I don’t have enough time to do a full routine.

Lizard Lips Lip Balm – This lipbalm is actually something that I have in my bag all the time, but I only remember that it exists when I see it. This isn’t my main lip balm, but I do use it whenever I need a quick fix.

Etude House Big Cover Concealer Stick – This product is very effective in hiding unwanted spots on the face. Although I cannot say that it fully hides everything, it reduces the appearance of the spots until it’s unnoticeable. Also, this concealer is very easy to apply because of the stick form. It isn’t messy and it easily blends on the skin.

Celeteque Acne Solutions Acne-Clearing Concealer – I apply this on areas with acne before I put the Etude House Big Cover Concealer Stick. Because although I’m confident with this concealer’s healing properties, it does not give much coverage.

Celeteque Acne Solutions Acne Spot Corrector Gel – I actually started incorporating this gel in my daily routine, before I put on my cream. I simply apply this product on my acne and massage it through until it’s fully absorbed. This gel is great for acne emergencies because it can be brought everywhere without worrying that it might spill all over my bag, and it easily absorbs without leaving a shiny cast.

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer – I don’t use this as much as I use the Etude House Big Cover Concealer Stick, but this product comes very handy whenever I need full face coverage–usually when I feel haggard and tired and my face looks dull. This somehow covers that dullness and the bags under my eyes efficiently.

Nivea Raspberry Rose Lip Butter (see full review here) – This is my go-to lip product! I apply this as often as whenever my lips feel dry. I simply cannot leave the apartment without this.

Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder – I just recently got this from my latest Althea Haul. I’m not really a fan of powder, I went through puberty without it. But this product somehow changed my view on powders! I apply this after I put my sunscreen in the morning and my face actually looks brighter and feels smoother after. I don’t really reapply this because there’s no need to, it lasts the whole day. But I just bring it with me in case some emergency happens.

If you guys can notice, the products that I bring with me every day are just concealers and other items geared towards protecting the skin and hiding imperfections. I’m not really a fan of doing everyday makeup, although I’m starting to put a small amount of blush on my cheeks every now and then just to add a bit of color. Also, I use some lip color from time to time especially when I feel like I look dead. But that’s just about it. I like to keep my face bare but flawless (which is quite impossible) thus the number of concealers and powders that I have with me. However, I’m starting to experiment with the makeup that I have hidden in my room so there’s a huge possibility that more cosmetics might be added to my daily makeup essentials. But as of the moment, I’m satisfied with the few products that I have in my bag.

What are your daily beauty essentials? Let me know!

My 8-Step Morning Skincare Routine

This whole thing is the reason why I look forward to waking up in the morning. I may have mentioned before that as much as possible, I want my face to be clear of any products during the daylight, but almost everything that I read regarding skincare heavily emphasizes the importance of using sun cream. I didn’t care much about using SPF before because I’m only exposed to sunlight for a maximum of thirty minutes a day–my office is a good 15-minute walk from my place. But when I received an SPF lotion from my aunt (not the one featured in this post), I took it as a sign that I should start curating for a morning skincare routine. I tried using a few other products in the morning before I came up with this lineup, it wasn’t easy for me because my face would sometimes end up sticky and greasy the whole day, and I just feel totally uncomfortable that sometimes I skip putting products altogether and simply apply SPF instead. But after a few trials and errors, I was finally able to come up with a lineup that was perfect for my morning skincare needs.

Calmia Rooibos No Wash Cleansing Water (First cleanser)– First thing that I do in the morning is to apply this on my face with a regular facial tissue. I gently wipe the tissue on my face until I’ve covered everything. I know that double cleansing in the morning may be unnecessary for some people but I just like removing all the excess product that I have applied on my face the night before while I prepare myself  in the morning. And also, there are days when I don’t immediately take a bath in the morning. Sometimes I’ll do it after two hours or five hours–depends on my schedule for the day which may cause last night’s products to stay on my face longer if I don’t use this cleansing water. I don’t want to do all my skincare rituals in the morning without taking a bath first because I know that they’ll be washed away after a few hours and I will have to reapply them. So I just do my first cleansing to keep my face fresh for the meantime.

This cleansing water is indeed effective in removing product residue. Before I had this product, my face would feel slimy whenever I wet it with water every morning. To be honest, sometimes I don’t feel like I’m washing my face enough in because it would still feel loaded with products. But now, not only does my skin feel cleaner and lighter, I would also instantly feel refreshed after using this cleansing water.

CosRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser (Second cleanser)– I remember the first time I heard of this product, I wasn’t interested with it because it looked like it came from the pharmacy. But while I was doing my research on the best skincare products, this baby kept on appearing and thus I wanted to know what all the hype was about and purchased it from Althea Korea. Goodness gracious this product is heaven sent! It’s really light but not runny, and even though this is supposedly a gel cleanser, it foams up when you massage it on your face. It also has this amazing therapeutic tea tree scent which made me love this product even more.

Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner (Toner) -This is a mild alcohol-based toner that promises removing impurities and tighten pores. I wanted to stay clear of alcohol-based toners because they might cause dryness to my skin. But so far this product has not done any harm to my skin and it absorbs really well which makes it perfect for the morning routine.

CosRX Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol (serum) – I use this right after my toner and then wait a few more minutes before I proceed to my next step. I find this product very effective in helping me deal with my acne scars and prevents incoming breakouts from happening. I know that there may be a risk of using this product along with an alcohol-based cleanser (drying+exfoliation), but so far no harm has been done to my skin. After all, this BHA claims that it’s non-drying. Yes, there was flaking, but the flakes only appeared in the areas of my face that had acne which means this product is doing it’s job well. Also, I never feel any stinging sensation whenever I use this product.

Etude House Honey Cera Priming Eye Serum – Etude House’s Honey Cera Range is my favorite range of products from the said brand basically because of its scent. Which is why this product was on top of my wishlist when I was looking for an eye cream. I love how the applicator gives me a cooling effect whenever I glide this product with it beneath my eyes. It is also easily absorbed by my skin and so far I hadn’t had the experience of my eyes stinging because of this product. After using this for weeks, my eyes appeared more brighter.

Onsaemeein Perfect Moisture Cream (Moisturizer) – True to its name, this product is indeed the perfect moisturizer especially in the morning time. It has a light creamy consistency that somehow looks like paste diluted with water. Once you start massaging this on your face it turns into watery liquid which makes application even and moisture absorption better. This product also locks in the moisture of the skin to keep it hydrated the whole day.

It’s My Sun Cream (SPF)– What I love with this sun cream is that it does not leave a sticky film on the face, making it feel like there was barely any product on it. This product has a faint SPF scent which I don’t really mind although I’m not a huge fan of it–I guess it’s just something that all SPFs have. Anyway, this is not really that easy to apply. It does not leave a white cast, but you have to massage the product on your face for a few minutes before it becomes clear of any visible traces of the cream.

Rituals… Lipbalm – I actually don’t know if this lipbalm is available individually. This came with Qatar Airlines’ amenity kit for business class passengers–and I’m not that business class passenger, it’s my aunt and she just gave me one of her kits. Anyway, I don’t know what’s with these airline freebies but I always like their lipbalms because their fragrance-free and they do keep the lips from chapping unlike other lipbalms that I have encountered. I also use this at night when I put on a clay mask or a sheet mask because there are times when I feel my lips dry up whenever I put on masks.

and that’s all for my morning skincare! I don’t usually put on makeup, but there are times when I use concealer on areas where I have pimples and redness. I love this lineup because I don’t look like I just applied a bunch of products on my face when I go out and face the world. It only leaves a dewy finish that I love. I have not spent a long time with this routine yet so I can’t really say if these products has long term effects, but as of now I am totally loving it.

If you have any product recommendations for a morning skin routine, let me know!
